Joining the military

10 Steps to Joining the military

Step 5: Ace the ASVAB
If you're serious about joining the military, then get serious about the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB).
The ASVAB is a timed multi-aptitude test, which is given at over 14,000 schools and Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) nationwide and is developed and maintained by the Department of Defense.
Step 6: Get the best job
Getting the best job: for many people, this is the most exciting and the most frustrating part of joining the military. There are plenty of jobs to choose from, but which one should you choose? First, you need to succeed on the ASVAB (link). After that, you should:
• Ask questions
• Find out which job areas you would work well in
• Go through the jobs in your field
• Make several choices - at least three different jobs - and talk about them with your recruiter.
Step 7: Choose the right path
There are hundreds of different jobs in the military, and almost endless paths you can take during your military career. Would you like to be an enlisted member and do most of the hands-on work in the military? Would you like to be an officer and have a more managerial role?
